This workshop will introduce elementary teachers to Ancient and Medieval History, content is aligned with SD Social Studies Content Standards and will focus attention on the Incarnation that exemplifies key themes of the ancient and Medieval world based on themes of creation, ancient Israel, How the Jewish, Greek, and Roman cultures all contributed to preparing the world to hear the Gospel, why many Romans distrusted and persecuted the early Christians, Christian heroes (Abraham, Isaac, Isaiah, Joseph, John the Baptist, the prodigal son, and Daniel), the fall of Rome, the Renaissance, and Reformation.

Topics Include:

  • Our Hidden Treasure: The Catholic Vision of History
  • Catholic Education in the story of Salvation History
  • Ancient Civilizations: Asia, the Middle East, northern Africa, and the eastern Mediterranean Sea
  • Ancient Civilizations - Ancient Greece, the Roman Republic, the Roman Empire
  • Wonders of History Conference - Teaching History through Stories
  • Ancient Civilizations - Beginning of Christianity
  • Fall of Rome and the Middle Ages
  • Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance
  • Reformation
  • Grade Level Teacher Gatherings to collaborate, lesson plan, resource share of ideas

All presentations will be in audio format and available online for non-credit or credit through Mount Marty University.

*If taking for credit participants must listen to all presentations, attend the Wonders of History Conference (October 24, 2024 in Sioux Falls or October 25, 2024 in Huron), and participate in a grade level gathering (Scheduled February April 2025).
